Unlike large generalist manufactories, Cutipol does not divide its attention between porcelain, glass and textiles: all of its engineering is concentrated on the object you hold in your hand throughout the meal. That specialisation explains why its cutlery feels different the moment you pick it up — the weight distribution, the edge of the handle, the precise point where the piece stops being a tool and becomes table design.
Cutipol's coloured finishes are part of the argument, not a decorative extra. The same profile changes register entirely depending on whether it is presented polished, matte or in a dark tone, which is why many tables combine two finishes from the same collection: one for everyday service and one for the long table. At Mesa Real each finish appears as its own reference, so there is no ambiguity when reordering pieces years later.
Cutipol presents itself as a Portuguese family manufactory entirely devoted to cutlery, with its own production in Vila Nova de Famalicão. Mesa Real does not publish dates or turnover figures it cannot document from a manufacturer source.
Cutipol's decisive turn is treating cutlery as a design piece with recognisable authorship, not as an anonymous accessory to the dinner service. Its collections are identified by their profile rather than by decoration.
Cutipol works with external authors — among them the architect Manuel Aires Mateus for the AM collection — alongside its own design team. Specific attributions appear in the authorship section of this page, each with its source.
All of Cutipol's engineering is concentrated on a single family of objects. The result is an unusual coherence of profile and weight: pieces from the same collection behave identically in the hand, from the coffee spoon to the steak knife.
Polished, matte or coloured: at Cutipol the finish changes the character of the table as much as the shape does. That is why each finish is treated as an independent reference rather than a secondary variant.
Cutipol's collections almost entirely renounce decorative relief. The argument is the line of the handle, the angle of the neck and the relationship between length and weight.
Cutipol states its own production in Vila Nova de Famalicão. It is a European manufactory with a short chain, not a distribution label.
Cutipol's absolute core. Each collection is offered as a complete system — table, dessert, coffee, serving — so a table can grow in stages without losing coherence.
Cutipol's most recognisable collection: a narrow, elongated resin handle with a marked contrast between handle and head. It works equally well on a minimal table and in formal service.
A continuous steel profile with no visual break between handle and head. It is the most sober reading in the catalogue and the one that lives best with decorated tableware.
A more present curve in the handle, designed around the grip. It brings movement to the table without resorting to ornament.
A contemporary design of clean lines within the house's language. Specific distinctions for this collection appear in the recognitions section, with their source.
A collection signed by the architect Manuel Aires Mateus. It reinterprets familiar Portuguese proportions with a distinctly architectural economy of line.
Current count of pieces published at Mesa Real, not the manufacturer's full catalogue.
Based on the manufacturer's own material declarations on the published pieces.
Signs the AM collection for Cutipol: a contemporary reading of familiar Portuguese cutlery proportions, with pure lines and a measured volume in the hand.
